Somersaults and Cartwheels

Last night I was watching my kids try to do the ever famous, ba-ba-buh-ba!!! (drumrollllll)Somersault!!! I know, doesn't seem real hard, right? And they made great efforts. I coached them enthusiastically (aka-bossily) from my overstuffed, comfy chair. Finally after watching them do head stand and flop, after head stand and flop, I say -

"Oh. Look out. I'll show you myself!"

I confindently get to floor, move them all out of the way, hunch on my knees, put my hands next to me and...."ooof." I sit up,

"There's no way I'm doin' one of those. I'll hurt my neck." I say.

Nice. I'm a good mom. I know.

But really, it was strange. I was watching them, and it seemed so natural that I could almost feel myself doing one. But then, onto the floor; and I chickened out. What? I think last time I did them so freely, I was about this size:

Check out Minks and her "beauty queen" pose.

Do we have to grow up? Really? It's such a bummer. I know that within the last five years I've done a cart wheel, and I find it totally pathetic that I know this.

Shouldn't I be doing cart wheels regularly? Of course I should!

So; New Years Res. number one:
More somersaults and cart wheels.

I think one of each this year would constitute more, right? And I am challening all of you to at least one of each as well. SO - get movin'!

Oh, I love doing cartwheels, Brent won't let me though, because then he knows he'll be rubbing my aching body for weeks after I jar everything upside down and then right side up. But yes, I love them , the rush, the straight legs, the perfect landing. And yes I boss from my chair too, because come on it's a friggin cartwheel and summersault, i mean, can't every kid do that, apparently not ours! Love ya, I'll do one when he's not looking this year, I'll have to do two to outdo last years, so you're on... Happy New Year! I'm going to go make a list of the other fun things I want to do!

Ummm, I can't help but feel a little judged! I happen to have low center of gravity (big butt in Laman's terms) I have never been able to do a cart wheel...I do happen to be very good at summersalts!

I've never been good at cartwheels but I discovered a few months ago that I can still do the splits! Imagine that....overweight mother of four doing the splits in her kitchen. It wasn't even an accident- I did it on purpose! Maybe I'll try to do a cartwheel again...maybe.
