Just Dance

Last night was Ruby's first 'dance recital.' I put that is quotes, because she has just being doing it for a couple of weeks in a cute teenagers backyard. So, her 'recital' was in the yard; and perfect. She was a little shy, but then bucked up and got some 'attitude' to do her solo. (I use these terms very loosely. Solo meant get out there and do anything you want. But getting up in front of people at all is great with me!) Anyway, she did it and loved it.

I was a little teary. It's true. I couldn't help it. You already know that I love dancing. I always have. It's that something that makes your whole heart and soul sing. I loved seeing these adorable little girls just dance. Just dance. They ran, skipped, leaped, and jumped like no one was watching. I LOVE to see their faces glow, their hair flying, skirts blowing. As I watch them I just can 't help but think - why don't we do this as adults? I think I know why so many cultures for thousands of years danced. It's a song to the soul.

I guess I felt so emotional because I think everyone needs to feel like this. It's a release from the pressures and reality of life. Even for these sweet little pink girls. None of them did anything to mention in the way of keeping even one 'dance rule.' But their hearts sang, their feet skipped, and you could see them shinning with joy. So today, here's my tip for you: Just dance. Maybe it's a twirl with your baby in your arms. Maybe it's a skip or two to the car. Maybe it's chasing your kids through the grass with a couple of leaps added in. (Can't you see your kids faces while you're leaping?! They'll love it.) Whatever it is, just a few steps. Today. Just dance.
